Armchairs from Council House 1963

Available now. Set of six totally groovy chairs in original apple green fabric, in very good condition.

I have been told they were made locally for the original fit-out of the Perth Council House in 1963. However they have lost their makers tag, so I can’t confirm that.

They look quite similar to a design by Sven Ivar Dysthe, a Norwegian designer active from the 1950s. His chairs have been seen in the office of Stirling Cooper in the TV show Madmen.

They are, I think, in jarrah; very solid and well made, and have clearly been looked after. In really good nick, apart from discolouring on a few of the metal discs, and some small scratches.

Beautifully proportioned, and very comfortable to sit in. They could be used as lounge chairs, or as dining chairs. Would also be great in a bar.

A great addition to any mid-century or Danish-modern style interior, highly functional collectors’ pieces.

$600 the set. Call or text 0437 789 475. Also available on Gumtree.
